"Expiring"

I used to write journals in coffee shops
Fill pages of heart ache and dread.
There's a new silence there now –
One like a freshly passed over floor
From an industrial mop and bleach.
The hooker of life has stripped her
Clothes off and forgotten
She had even become bare,
Revealing the mystery of life
At every turn – every glance.
I knew what my friends
Were up too – I had the Internet.
All my past loves were on there too
I got status updates on my
Twitter account from the Starbucks
Barista at the counter making
My four dollar coffee.
We know when to hide
From the weather
I know what you ate
By your Instagrams
I can see what's coming
Around every corner
GPS masterminded it's all already
What hasn't been white washed
By the mop and bleach
Of modern social life
Where all the world's a meme,
A victory is allowing atheist Gays
To marry and get a tax deduction
From the Straights while
Mexicans cut my ornamental lawn
Asians kill themselves to make
My cell phone and God reclines
On his masturbatory balls of fluff
He calls clouds in that eternal
Limitless sky we call space,
Reminding us every night
How terribly insignificant
And alone we really are.
